The new Nashoba Valley Regional Emergency Communications Center at Devens is opening this month, but Harvard—one of four participating communities and towns—won’t move its dispatch operation to Devens until late summer or early fall. That’s fine with Police Chief Ed Denmark, who doesn’t want Harvard joining the regional center until the other three communities—Devens, Lancaster, and Lunenburg—have successfully merged their operations, and training in the new system is complete. Denmark doesn’t foresee any problems, he said in a recent interview, but he wants to minimize the transition’s impact on town residents and is still putting that part of the plan together.
How will it work?
