DEVENS — Scientists and engineers Tuesday showcased a range of technology being tested in Massachusetts with the goal of reducing energy use at U.S. military base camps.
“On the battlefield, energy is critical to our mission success,” said Katherine Hammack, assistant secretary of the Army for installations, energy and environment. “The less fuel we consume and the faster that we can set up and take down tents and shelters means we’re more able to focus on the mission (itself).”
Using less means less fuel needs to be trucked into camps, a process that puts soldiers’ lives at risk, said Lt. Gen. Raymond Mason, the Army’s deputy chief of staff for logistics.
