HARVARD — Kara Fossey, museum director at the Devens Museum, will describe some of the museum’s 3,000 artifacts, photographs and documents related to the land, buildings and life of the soldiers and their families that were part of 20th century Fort Devens and its predecessor, Camp Devens.
Prior to its closure in 1996, the fort and camp served as a training and induction center for more than a million New England recruits, as home to prisoner-of-war camps during both world wars, as the site of Dr. Robert Goddard’s early liquid fuel rocket tests and as ground zero during the Great Influenza Epidemic of 1918.
There will be an opportunity for members to sign up for a visit to the museum located on the former base.
