DEVENS — Employment and average wages have risen in Devens during the past few years, showing a concentration of technical and manufacturing industries that rises above the rest of the state, according to a report released Tuesday.
The UMass Donahue Institute report shows an increase of 396 jobs and four businesses from last year, topping employment with 4,030 positions at 91 different businesses. A majority of 74 percent of businesses are private, with 20 percent listed as nonprofit and the remaining 6 percent as government jobs.
The manufacturing industry employs the highest number of people at 1,177 employees, followed by public-administration jobs from the Devens Enterprise Commission, the federal medical center, state police and MassDevelopment.
