A land disposition agreement signed last week by the state’s economic development agency and Lexington-based Devens Village Green LLC could lead to the construction of 124 new housing units at Devens over the next five years, with implications for Harvard’s affordable housing, school-age population, and voter rolls.
MassDevelopment and Village Green announced the signing on Sept. 3. Although a purchase and sales agreement has yet to be signed for the 45 acres on which the housing is to be built, MassDevelopment spokesman Mark Sternman told the Press that last week’s signing was “a major milestone.”
If all goes according to plan, the land purchase will be completed this fall, and Village Green will apply to the Devens Enterprise Commission DEC for the permits it needs to begin construction of an initial 15 units next spring. “Stay tuned,” said Sternman.
