SHIRLEY — When the Planning Board launched its site-plan review for the first solar farm in town last year — a 3-megawatt array now up and running on Water District Land off Patterson Road — it was new territory, Chairman Jonathan Greeno said, and it generated a special-permit process that was rather protracted the first time around.
Now, it should be a smoother process, he said, with much of the groundbreaking legwork done and a procedural template in place for other projects in the permit pipeline.
On Monday night, the Planning Board granted a special permit for the second solar farm to be built in town, on a site next door to the first. And like its neighbor, the power the facility will generate — in this case only 0.5 megawatts — is destined for Devens.
