DEVENS — Dr. Michael Krupa, the man behind the proposed New England Recovery Center, an 86- to 110-bed for-profit hospital that would treat both psychiatric and substance-abuse patients, recently had a meeting with Devens residents to outline his vision.

Now he’s focused on the next steps — of which there are many.

“I’m continuing to get my arms around how many details there are to do,” Krupa said.

He and his team are now in the process of completing due diligence on the 7.6-acre site at 85 Patton Road, a task that includes undertaking environmental studies and determining if the location is sufficient to contain both the building and the parking.

  1. When can people start applying for positions? What kinds of jobs will be available? Is there local preference (aka Devens impact towns Ayer, Shirley, Harvard, Lancaster?) There is huge need for local preference hiring – Devens has not, so far, been the “Economic Engine” that was promised, to put it politely. Will the Devens Chamber of Commerce assist inoutreach to applicants from impact communities? MassDevelopment – where developing resources INCLUDES Human Resources? Many, many people are waiting for this information. Most are highly qualified, experienced.
