AYER — The Devens Restoration Advisory Board met Thursday to update the public on the cleanup progress at two areas: the former Moore Army Airfield and the Shepley’s Hill Landfill.
Crews have been working on the airfield, which is contaminated with PCE, or tetrachloroethylene, for a few years now, said Sovereign Consulting’s Eric Simpson.
According to Bob Simeone, the Devens Base Realignment and Closure environmental coordinator, the process started in 2004. There are 16 years to go, because the PCE will be fully degraded at the end of 27 years.
