The American Planning Association has awarded its Excellence in Sustainability Award to Devens’ sustainable housing pilot project.
The project includes eight single-family homes and 12 townhomes at Devens’ Adams Circle and Bates Street, which were designed to provide a replicable example of current and innovative sustainable building practices that are practical for the commonwealth. All 20 homes are occupied; some have Home Energy Rating System ratings of net zero energy or even net positive energy, which can generate enough energy to power an electric car.
Metric Corp. of Boston built the townhomes and Transformations of Townsend built the single-family developer. All of the homes have been occupied since 2013.
