AYER/HARVARD/SHIRLEY — Officials from Ayer, Harvard and Shirley have agreed to schedule Super Town Meetings the first week in June to consider proposed Devens zoning changes forwarded by MassDevelopment, the state agency charged with redeveloping the former Army base and with its interim governance.
With its Army-era streetscape and upgraded infrastructure mostly intact, Devens today is a planned civilian enclave that consists of a small residential community, a couple of military installations and an eclectic ensemble of business and industrial facilities that range from offices and agencies installed in the many brick buildings that once housed Army operations to new factory warehouses and manufacturing plants bordering the rail line and built along the boulevard leading to Route 2 to a professional movie studio at the end of Grant Road, where more than a hundred new residences will soon be constructed.
The mix also includes public and private schools (Parker Charter School, Guild of St. Agnes, a Mount Wachusett Community College satellite campus…) plus Devens Commons, a cluster of hotels, restaurants and MassDevelopment headquarters.
