DEVENS — Eager for a foothold in the fast-growing unmanned-vehicle sweepstakes, officials at Devens have decided to host an event next month designed to showcase the former military base as a perfect location for testing and putting new robotic devices through their paces.
“It was the initiative of the Devens Interoperability Playground to create a center for the testing and commercialization of robots and unmanned vehicles,” said Richard Kelley, executive vice-president for Devens IOP. “Those of us who are actively involved with the Devens IOP wanted to show the amazing potential of what exists in and around the area of Devens for innovative technology products. A lot of the core R&D work happens in the Boston and Cambridge area, and they need a place to come out and field-test these items and get them into the marketplace.”
