BOSTON (WWLP) – Governor Charlie Baker will be headed to our nation’s capital on Tuesday, to advocate for the state’s six military installations, including the two located in western Massachusetts. The governor will be holding meetings with Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-New Hampshire) and Sen. Jack Reed (D-Rhode Island), both of whom will have important roles in the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process.
The governor will also travel to the Pentagon to meet with John Conger, the Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Energy, Installations, and Environment.
As the name suggests, the process, which last took place in 2005, involves the closure and/or repurposing of existing military bases.
