Jim Pavlik, Red Tail Golf Club general manager and director of golf, was surprised that the United States Golf Association dropped the U.S. Amateur Public Links this year to hold a U.S. Amateur Four-Ball instead, but he’s looking forward to hosting the Massachusetts Amateur Public Links at his Devens club this week.

“I am very disappointed that it (the USAPL) has been discontinued in favor of the Four-Ball and it’s too bad,” Pavlik said. “I thought it was a great event.”

Pavlik feels the same way about the Mass. Amateur Public Links, which is open to golfers who belong to public courses and have handicaps of 12 or lower.
