The selectmen have postponed a decision to terminate either the Economic Development Committee or the Devens Economic Analysis Team until a future meeting.
Selectwoman Lucy Wallace is her board’s liaison to both committees. She reported Tuesday that Kara Minar, chairwoman of the Planning Board, which appoints EDC members jointly with the selectmen, wanted an opportunity to discuss the future of the EDC with her members. Wallace said the Planning Board might want to replace the EDC with a subcommittee of its own to help draft zoning changes for the commercial district on Ayer Road. At present, Elaine Lazarus is the sole member of the five-seat committee. Dissolving the committee will require the approval of Town Meeting.
As for the DEAT, Wallace said DEAT Chairman Victor Normand was about to release his committee’s latest report on the financial viability of Devens as a self-sustaining community. A crowded calendar will prevent the selectmen from hearing Normand’s recommendations until their Oct. 20 meeting. Since the terms of the team’s five members will expire at the end of September, Wallace moved that their terms be extended thru Dec. 31. Her motion passed unanimously, 4-0, absent Selectman Stu Sklar.
