School’s open: What’s new for 2015–16 at Hildreth Elementary and Bromfield

As the Harvard schools prepare to open next week, some changes are immediately obvious—like the handsome new entryway to the Bromfield School, with its smooth walkways, fall-blooming flowers, and new shrubs. Other improvements are inside the buildings, such as the completely redone restrooms in Hildreth Elementary School. And still other differences will become obvious when classes begin, like new elective courses and iPad-toting sixth-graders.
One surprising change is an uptick in school enrollment after several years of declining numbers. HES Principal Sue Frederick said quite a few new families had moved into the district this year, with the biggest increase coming in the primary grades (K-2). And Bromfield Principal Jim O’Shea said that more than 20 new students had signed up for middle and high school in August alone. Enrollment figures do not become official until later in the fall, but both schools expect to have more students this year than last.
