DEVENS — Veterans and their Army units from World War II are the special focus of this year’s Veterans Day Open House at the Fort Devens Museum on Nov. 7.
Retired dentist Dr. John McAuliffe of Worcester will talk at 11 a.m. about his experiences during World War II as part of an 8mm mortar squad with the 347th Infantry Regiment. At 1 p.m., members of a 26th “Yankee” Division living history group will speak about the exploits of the 26th in WWII, explain features of their uniforms and equipment, and relay experiences they have had in making history come alive. Members of this group will also be on hand in uniform to talk to visitors throughout the day.
In addition to these programs, exhibits are on view that chronicle the history of Camp and Fort Devens and the roles its men and women played overseas and on the home front.
